The MI GEAR UP (MIGU) program works exclusively with schools in which 50% or more of the students are eligible for free/reduced lunch. The program is specifically equipped to assist low-income, underrepresented students and their families, while providing partnership opportunities for educators and counselors. Once accepted into the program, participants are eligible to participate in any of the services offered and MIGU works with participants until their freshman year of college.
MIGU at MSU is currently serving the largest population of GEAR UP students in the State of Michigan, approximately 1,100! We are currently serving 8th grade students in the graduating class of 2026 who are attending one of the following middle schools:
- Dwight Rich School of the Arts
- Gardner International Magnet
- Eastern High School
- Everett High School
- J.W. Sexton High School
- Post Oak International Baccalaureate
- Waverly Middle School
